Future Past Present. Jonathan Reuel and Jason Ropp. Released in August of 2016, this four song EP shows Jonathan and Jason live in the studio singing their songs with minimal accompaniment. Jonathan plays harp on Ropp’s Carry On while Ropp handles the piano on Reuel’s beautifully sad “Green.” Working again with Grant Beachy who produced Reuel’s 2011 release “Watershed,” the duo manages to make four simple songs more than the sum of their parts. The theme of the record is a form of time travel — reflections on how memories of the past and thoughts of the future change the present. Solid songwriting, simple and effective performances. Like Reuel’s 2006 release Now this may end up being one of his better recordings by being completely unadorned.
